Who We Are

Our organization was founded as the Fédération des francophones hors-Québec (the Federation of francophones outside Quebec) in 1975 and renamed the Fédération des communautés francophones et acadienne du Canada (the Federation of Francophone and Acadian communities of Canada) in 1991. Its objective is to serve as the national and international voice of more than 2.5 million French-speaking Canadians living in nine provinces and three territories.

The FCFA consists of 22 members: 12 provincial and territorial associations representing Francophone interests, as well as 10 national organizations representing different sectors of activity and development (literacy, culture, justice, community media, health care, seniors, youth, women, parents and child care services). We are also the lead organization in the Francophone and Acadian communities' consultation network. In this role, we coordinate the Forum of Leaders - a group of 42 organizations committed to working together to implement a vision of our communities' future adopted at the Sommet des communautés francophones et acadiennes (Francophone and Acadian Communities' Summit) in 2007.
